| Notes | "The Crawfords of Adams Co., Ohio" Compiled by H. Marjorie Crawford, PhD, 1976. The list of the 'Napier' gives his age as 30, but from family tradition about his having been a school teacher in Ireland and the description of him as 'the old bachelor who went back to Ireland and married a young girl' he was probably about 50 rather than 30. He prob. came to this country with his brother Samuel's family in 1818. he taught school in Adams & brown Counties and Gen. U.S. Grant is said to have gone to school to him in Georgetown, Brown, OH. he 'went back to Ireland in 1839, married a young girl and told so much about America that he got quite a crowd to come over when he came back in 1840' | Notes | After her husband, Andrew died, Jane married his nephew Robert who had lived with them in west Union at the hotel which Andrew kept. It was know as the Crawford House and is not the Wayside Inn. Jane died of cholera on 30 July 1851 in the epidemic in West Union and was buried the same night. |
